Life Game Melbourne 2011

Finally, this winter I got to fulfill one of my dreams, that is to attend the Life Game. It has been my wish to go for this camp since secondary school. The anticipation builds up after years of hearing good comments from the campers.

Thank God, it didn't let me down.

Life Game was simply awesome. If you had never heard of Life Game, you can visit here. Basically it's a game where campers experience the process of life: study, working, marrying, giving birth, becoming ill and dying. There are just so much to learn and reflect upon the game. It didn't just impact me, but the other 12 campers from my church in Tasmania as well. Having them with me in the camp is another bonus, because through hours of discussion we manage to point out issues and learn from each other. It is a precious opportunity to learn about myself with a group of nice and mature + sincere brothers and sisters.

Getting to know more people in the camp was another great experience. It was since 2007, i think, that I have been to a 200 people's camp. But this camp was interesting because I believe 30-50% of the campers are from Sibu. So much so that my Penang-nite friend can go around disguising himself as a Foochow from Sibu with just that few Foochow dialogues:

"Sibu people?"
"From Methodist school?"
"Eh, own kind!"

Well, his scheme failed when some of the campers were not from Methodist school.

Life Game really helps me to go back to the basics. And a lot of us realise that it is those simple little things that we always think we know that would threaten and fail us.

Since there are so much to learn from different perspectives, I can't really find a way to explain all that I've learned. Probably the best way to do it is to summarise some of the things I learned in sentences. I have a feeling that I'll be updating this entry from time to time because God has been telling me many things He wants me to know through the camp continuously, and He is still doing it!

1. Don't be anxious about earthly things, because when you do, you miss the things in heaven.

2. Life is a race you run on your own, with your eyes set on eternity, and never compare with other people.

3. Having less knowledge and capability should not reduce your self-worth because God makes everyone unique. The more you know and the more you can do, the more responsibility you have for other people. So be thankful if you are less adequate than others because God will expect less from you at the end of the day.

4. Everyone has a different family background or past history. It does not matter. What matters is what are you going to do with it.

5. Always be alert about the things around you and be aware that God has told us all that we need to know about tomorrow.

6. Having a wife/husband with the same faith and vision would help you to achieve God's will in your life. Having one with a different faith would pull you away from God. You won't be staying the same as the time when you were single because you now don't control your life fully.

7. Always go back to the basics. They are the foundation of your faith and being.

8. Do number your days. You never know how long you would live. Coffin is not for old people, it's for dead people. You could be one anytime.

9. In ALL that we do, God is the reason, the passion, the desire. Anything that is not done with Him as the focus would either mean nothing or disappoint us one day.

10. Don't wait till the best moment to tell your friends and family about the gospel. Always have it at the back of your mind and share the gospel through your life and speech at any appropriate time. Life's too short to wait and procrastinate.

11. Heaven's gate is narrow. That's why it's less popular and easy to live a Christian way on earth. If you suffer or feel rejected, it's alright. It probably means you are on the right track.

The points listed above are some of the things I could think of now. Hopefully those points could help you in times of need. They may seem to be just mere words to you, but, every point I mentioned above has its story behind it. Well, I can't reveal much here. Now it's your chance to experience it for your own if you haven't been to one.

P/s: Someone told me that Perth is almost certainly to organise one in November 2012!

Last Portion of Winter Break

It has been a while indeed since the last entry.

Gonna leave where I am right now in 10 minutes. I'm looking forward to get refreshed. Had been quite stagnant spiritually and mentally for the past 2 months.

Lord! Come and challenge me once again! I wanna encounter with You! I shall come in hunger and expecting to be fed! Full! Enlarge my capacity I ask.

Halls Falls. Pyengana, Tasmania. June 2011.
Signing off, for 8 days.
